Hi all, I grew up here but left for a while. You can expect to pay around $908 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community vibe is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 11 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in South for 15 years. Moved from Minneapolis for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Chain restaurants dominate. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I work in engineering here and it's not perfect but it works for me. The job market for my field is challenging. No regrets on my end..
