Pros and cons of Le Mars after 14 years

So, Median household income is $72,381, which feels about average for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (North) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Downtown area are underrated. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Pine Hills. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
