Remote worker thinking about Leander

Hey folks, We're a young couple and Homes are going for about $470,700 on average. It's a a smaller city city with about 67,880 people. The median home value here is around $470,700, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Leander sits at 109.3 per 100K. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Any advice would be great. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I genuinely enjoy living here. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 6 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Eastside area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 11 years. Moved from Minneapolis for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not a lot of cultural diversity. Bugs and humidity in summer. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
