Honest thoughts on life in Leawood

Been meaning to ask this. Crime rate is something to consider -Leawood sits at 54.2 per 100K. Rent is about $1,753/month for a decent place. The median home value here is around $620,400, which is pretty steep. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Close to nature
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- High property taxes
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Far from major airports
- Limited cultural events
Should I be concerned? Looking forward to hearing from you all. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The public transit is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Baltimore about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..
