So, Homes are going for about $620,400 on average. Rent is about $1,753/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any help is appreciated. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely pretty good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in finance here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

I've lived in Highland for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The safety scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..
