Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from San Diego about 7 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 2 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
