Moving to Lebanon for work -advice?

Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and Household incomes average around $42,157 in Lebanon. The median home value here is around $152,200, which is actually reasonable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Came here for family and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The school system is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Dallas about 13 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

I'm a electrician and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- The housing market scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 35, moved here 1 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in North and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The job market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Can feel isolated
3. The outdoor recreation situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Pine Hills: Great for young professionals. tough vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Tampa about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Definitely worth checking out..
