Moving to Lebanon for work -advice?

Longtime lurker here, I've been here for 11 years and Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 14,759 people. Household incomes average around $92,288 in Lebanon. Poverty rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. What would you do? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

I've lived in East for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The walkability scene is average

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Summers can be brutally hot

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 9 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Portland about 10 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Good luck with whatever you decide..
