Unpopular opinion about Lebanon

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Homes are going for about $295,900 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Thoughts? Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Old Town for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- The housing market scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2016 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 43, moved here 13 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Downtown and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The dating scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much established but now it's surprisingly good.
