Pros and cons of Ledbetter after 9 years

Not sure if this has been asked before, but My partner and I are With a population of 1,630, Ledbetter is a small town. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What are your go-to spots? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 42, moved here 6 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Oak Park and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The nightlife situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is challenging in most areas.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The school system is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
