Been meaning to ask this. Median household income is $62,330, which feels about average for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Would love some local perspective.

I've lived in Old Town for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- The public transit scene is tough
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..

I'm a social worker and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is improving and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Definitely worth checking out..

Moved here from Raleigh about 11 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to pet-friendliness but Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I work in government here and it exceeded my expectations. The job market for my field is underrated. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The safety is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
