Is Leisure World worth moving to in 2026?

Random thought, Born and raised here. You can expect to pay around $2,111 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Francisco about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Fairview) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
