Military spouse here. Rent is about $2,028/month for a decent place. With a population of 8,296, Lely Resort is a small town. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Pine Hills area are pretty good. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is improving in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
