Biggest downsides of living in Lemon Grove?

So, Median household income is $79,278, which feels about average for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,769 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. Rent is about $1,769/month for a decent place. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts. Looking forward to hearing from you all. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Mediterranean places. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Phoenix about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 47, moved here 5 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in South and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cost of living situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for couples. decent vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Sunset area are improving. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 14 years. Moved from Nashville for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Far from beaches/mountains. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The weather scene is decent

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. No regrets on my end..
