I'm single, late 30s, and The median home value here is around $319,200, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. Homes are going for about $319,200 on average. Median household income is $82,189, which feels pretty solid for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 1 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Minneapolis it's pretty good.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 14 years. Moved from Seattle for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Dating scene is rough. And housing market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
