Anyone else feel this way? I'm a 37-year-old mechanic and Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $102,344, which feels pretty solid for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
