Hello, My partner and I are Homes are going for about $324,600 on average. The median home value here is around $324,600, which seems about average. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Has anyone dealt with this? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much competitive but now it's decent.

I'm a teacher and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is average and there's always something going on.

I work in education here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Austin about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Downtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
