Hi all, I'm originally from Phoenix and Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,501/month for a decent place. Median household income is $101,619, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 4.8%, which is pretty low. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Meadowbrook for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- The food scene scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been here 3 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Oak Park area are decent. Kids love it here.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 51, moved here 1 years ago from Denver. I've lived in Highland and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The public transit situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for young professionals. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
