First post here. I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Lewiston sits at 127.5 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Is this normal for Lewiston? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 30, moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Highland and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The housing market situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $40K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Portland about 2 years ago. The main reasons were school and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.
