Alright, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Lewiston sits at 298.3 per 100K. Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. Poverty rate is 12.6%, which is around average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thoughts? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 2 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in The Heights for 10 years. Moved from Nashville for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is decent - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited shopping options. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Good luck with whatever you decide..
