First time home buyer in Lewiston

Household incomes average around $56,558 in Lewiston. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in finance. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Dallas about 8 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 1 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 8 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Tampa about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.
