Why I chose Lexington over bigger cities

Longtime lurker here, It's a a small town city with about 2,002 people. Household incomes average around $46,094 in Lexington. Crime rate is something to consider -Lexington sits at 232.3 per 100K. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Lots of new development
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited nightlife
- Limited dining options
- Boring for young people
- Limited cultural events
Let me know your thoughts. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 13 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Sunset area are underrated. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in East for 10 years. Moved from Chicago for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is tough - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Homeless population growing downtown. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
