Is Lexington a good place to live?

Hey everyone, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $985/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 0.3%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 7,420 people. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Is this normal for Lexington? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Old Town area are challenging. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Eastside for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The nightlife scene is decent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Raleigh it's challenging.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Miami about 13 years ago. The main reasons were work and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Affordable housing options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Feel free to reach out with questions..
