I relocated for work and The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. With a population of 30,446, Liberty is a smaller city. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Would love some local perspective.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 14 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Cedar Grove area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Bought a house here in 2024 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 43, moved here 9 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Low crime in most neighborhoods
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Winters are long and cold
3. The housing market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
