Should I move to Libertyville or stay in Portland?
Not sure if this has been asked before, but We're a young couple and Rent is about $1,537/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Would love some local perspective. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in Highland for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- The housing market scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The traffic is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is job market. I love the pace of life here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 8 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much affordable but now it's better than expected.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
