Raising a family in Lido Beach -thoughts?

Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and It's a a small town city with about 2,634 people. The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What would you do?

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Houston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Used to live on the North side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.
