Raising a family in Lima -thoughts?
Hello, Rent is about $865/month for a decent place. Am I wrong here? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much wild but now it's solid.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Austin it's better than expected.

I've lived in Highland for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The cultural scene scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
