Curious what people think. With a population of 51,629, Lincoln is a smaller city. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

Came here for work and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The healthcare is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. it's exactly what I was looking for. Worth doing your research before committing.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (The Heights) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

Moved here from Portland about 1 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to pet-friendliness but Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Riverside for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cost of living scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Maple Ridge. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
No regrets on my end..

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The traffic scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Sunset) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Austin it's decent.
