Longtime lurker here, I'm a 50-year-old firefighter and Crime rate is something to consider -Lincoln Park sits at 616.5 per 100K. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. Median household income is $57,183, which feels about average for the area. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.
Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Strong sense of community
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions

It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Baltimore about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 6 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Decent public transit for the size
- The weather scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Old Town. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Lakewood for 6 years. Moved from Chicago for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Lakewood schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Limited shopping options. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.
