The good and bad of living in Lincoln Park

Poverty rate is 17.2%, which is higher than I expected. It's a a smaller city city with about 39,511 people. Rent is about $972/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Diverse community
- Strong sense of community
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Limited nightlife
- Limited dining options
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is challenging in most areas.

Used to live on the Greenfield side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from San Francisco about 9 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 27, moved here 9 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Eastside and Pine Hills, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- Pine Hills: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Phoenix about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Bugs and humidity in summer.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Diverse dining options
- The walkability scene is tough

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were school and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..
