Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Came here for work and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The weather is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are established, gas is decent.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (North) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Midtown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The pet-friendliness scene is tough
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
