So, I'm a college student here and Rent is about $3,501/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in East for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Minneapolis, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- The community vibe scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in North area are solid. Kids love it here.

I'm a software engineer and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 8 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.
