Moving to Lindale with kids -good idea?

Hey folks, With a population of 6,389, Lindale is a small town. It's a a small town city with about 6,389 people. The median home value here is around $235,000, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What do you all think? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Bought a house here in 2016 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 51, moved here 12 years ago from LA. I've lived in East and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Highland) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
