Life in Lindenhurst as a young professional

Hello, Crime rate is something to consider -Lindenhurst sits at 119.0 per 100K. Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. It's a a smaller city city with about 27,106 people. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2020 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Portland about 5 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Midtown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The outdoor recreation scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 7 years. Moved from Seattle for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is improving - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Bugs and humidity in summer. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from LA about 15 years ago. The main reasons were work and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are growing, gas is challenging.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 56, moved here 11 years ago from Miami. I've lived in Sunset and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The housing market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.
