Lindsay vs Portland -which is better?

So, With a population of 12,572, Lindsay is a small town. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Does this match your experience? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much growing but now it's tough.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Meadowbrook area are solid. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 46, moved here 9 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in North and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The school system situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for families. average vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in tech. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Fairview for 10 years. Moved from New York for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is solid - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Fairview schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Urban sprawl is real. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
