Is Linganore still affordable?

So, I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $2,281 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Midtown area are average. Kids love it here.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Greenfield area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Boston about 11 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.

I've lived in Uptown for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..
