Thinking about relocating to Linthicum from Chicago

Anyone else feel this way? I'm a remote worker and The median home value here is around $368,800, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Thoughts?

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 14 years. Moved from Dallas for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is tough - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Dating scene is rough. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Downtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The pet-friendliness scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Tampa it's solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Eastside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's exactly what I was looking for. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
