I'm retired and It's a a mid-size city city with about 203K people. Rent is about $1,067/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Little Rock sits at 1,516.8 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Appreciate any input. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from LA about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely pretty good and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Midtown) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
