Should I move to Live Oak or stay in Austin?

First post here. I'm originally from Pittsburgh and Homes are going for about $317,900 on average. The median home value here is around $317,900, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Live Oak sits at 296.0 per 100K. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in Westside for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The public transit scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Nashville it's surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in construction. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 9 years. Moved from San Francisco for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
