Moving to Livingston with kids -good idea?

Random thought, We're a young couple and With a population of 14,450, Livingston is a small town. Poverty rate is 14.3%, which is around average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I overthinking this? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 10 years. Moved from Raleigh for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited public transit options. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The public transit is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
