OK so Been living here since 2011. With a population of 94,058, Livonia is a smaller city. Median household income is $96,317, which feels pretty solid for the area. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Would love some local perspective. Any help is appreciated. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Westside side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I work in real estate here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is average. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 3 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 47, moved here 15 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Uptown and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The cost of living situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for families. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great farm-to-table places. it's exactly what I was looking for.
