Hey folks, My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Lockeford sits at 456.0 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. What are your go-to spots? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a chef who relocated here from Tampa about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Downtown area are solid. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 13 years. Moved from Raleigh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is improving - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited entertainment options. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 8/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
