Lockhart quality of life -am I missing something?

Been meaning to ask this. It's a a small town city with about 14,753 people. Household incomes average around $70,051 in Lockhart. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'm a chef and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Moved here from Atlanta about 13 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to weather but Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Houston it's hit or miss.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The housing market is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The community vibe is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 15 years. Moved from Portland for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
