Hey, Rent is about $1,560/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,560 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Lockhart sits at 1,281.5 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What do you all think? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Bought a house here in 2020 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in West. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in construction. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Oak Park for 1 years. Moved from Charlotte for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is solid - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Far from beaches/mountains. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2024 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The housing market is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been in Fairview for 11 years. Moved from Atlanta for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Not very walkable outside downtown. And public transit can be frustrating.

For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for weather and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
