Best and worst neighborhoods in Lockport

Alright, I'm originally from San Francisco and Homes are going for about $298,800 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Lockport sits at 82.1 per 100K. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Am I wrong here? Thanks in advance! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Bought a house here in 2019 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Atlanta about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

I've lived in West for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Affordable housing options
- The community vibe scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Downtown area are average. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 4 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Portland about 11 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is excellent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- The housing market scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 27, moved here 1 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Westside and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Property taxes are high
3. The cost of living situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for remote workers. challenging vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

As someone who grew up here, it's not perfect but it works for me. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much stable but now it's challenging.
