It's a a smaller city city with about 26,228 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 2 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from New York about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..
