Rent in Locust Fork getting crazy

Anyone else feel this way? Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $169,600, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 18.1%, which is higher than I expected. Median household income is $42,045, which feels on the lower side for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want dating scene, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Moved here last year, no regrets.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Dallas about 15 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are developing, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The food scene is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
