First post here. I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $719/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $143,000 on average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a real estate agent, 47, moved here 2 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Highland and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The traffic situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Charlotte about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Tampa about 6 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.
