Hey, Been living here since 2018. Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a smaller city city with about 53,923 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. Would love some local perspective. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The school system scene is decent
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

The food scene here is underrated. Tons of great Italian places. it's been a really good experience overall.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Fairview area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 49, moved here 2 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Downtown and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
