Anyone regret moving to Long Beach?

Alright, Rent is about $2,377/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. You can expect to pay around $2,377 for rent here. It's a a smaller city city with about 34,741 people. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I overthinking this? The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 8 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 58, moved here 15 years ago from Houston. I've lived in Midtown and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The nightlife situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
